saturday (august 5)

8:30 AM After a free breakfast at the hotel, we pack all our stuff and head back to the Blue Lagoon to catch the bus back to Reykjavik. Note the big backpack on back and the small backpack up front.

We miss the 11:00 bus, so we hang out at the Blue Lagoon cafeteria for a couple hours writing postcards and reading books.

1:15 PM We catch the 1:15 bus, ride back to Reykjavik, and hike to the Hertz. We rent a wedding-colored Toyota Yaris. Toyota Yaris! It’s small! We drive out of town, stopping at a grocery store on the way.

6:00 PM See Geysir and Strokkur, two geysers. All geysers are named after the former, but even though it’s more famous, it’s inactive. This is Strokkur. Against a nice gray background.

Hannah took this shot because of the red umbrella and light blue jacket.

A little video (no sound) I took with my camera. In the excitement I turned the camera sideways, forgetting that I had already started recording. Well, nothing a little Motion can’t fix. If it doesn’t embed well in your browser, you could try downloading it by clicking here.

6:30 PM Set up tent right near Geysir and some ponies. Eat snack dinner in the car because it’s rainy.

8:30 PM Drive to Gulfoss, a nearby waterfall. These pictures are taken at like 9:30 PM; the dusk lasts forever.
