10:00 AM Back to civilization: We pack up and drive to Reykjavik, returning the small Toyota Yaris to its parents.
2:00 PM We walk to our next guesthouse, the Baldursbrá.
We go shopping. We walk to a tourist trap called the Perlan, which consists of a huge reflective dome built on top of the town’s hot water tanks. We consider spending time at the museum and/or restaurant there, but then instead walk to Nauthólsvík, a nearby geothermal beach. Karl tricks Hannah into getting in the water even though it’s not really that warm.
A sign for the men’s changing room at the geothermal beach. The name Karl means “strong and manly.”
You think I’m kidding, but I’m not.
7:30 PM We walk back to downtown Reykjavik for a very fancy dinner at a very fancy restaurant called the Laekjarbrekka (near this picture). They give us little beef tongue appetizers. We eat lamb and fish, again. It is yummy. Even the beef tongue.
This is Lake Tjoern, a useful landmark in the middle of old Reykjavik.
